Never
Never shall I forget that day; that awful day
Never shall I forget that cold doctor’s office
That reeked of latex and faint cologne.
Never shall I forget the slow deliberate
Ticking of the clock as we waited
Never shall I forget the creaking of the door,
Followed by the clicking of shoes to break the silence.
Never shall I forget the “tone” the tone all
Doctor’s use when the news isn’t good.
Never
Never shall I forget how he said it “Sir I am sorry
To be the one to say this but your cancer has spread.”
Never shall I forget the wretched pain that scorched
My daddy
My invincible “hero”
Never shall I forget the innocent tears he wept.
Never shall I forget the fear that tainted my mind and soul
As the doctor gave him six months to live
Never
Never shall I forget the burning as he wiped his tears away
To comfort mine.
Never shall I forget the nobility he displayed
Even as he was told his fate was sealed.
Never shall I forget my magical person, my hero
My daddy.
Never
