Mental Illness
A topic that everyone
shies away from
speaking about
It is the feeling of sadness
that takes over our souls
not being able to
keep our heads above water
Wanting society
to understand
the sharp pain
that feels like knives
stabbing at our hearts
The people judge us
thinking it is all for attention
when in reality
all we want is love
and support along
this bumpy road
But they don’t believe
we are capable
of accomplishing our goals
while we are healing
Mental Illness
in the world, we live in today
it is a reality
everyone needs to face

Mental illness is something I have struggled with for the past 3 years. I know how it feels when people look at you differently when you are going through something like this. The adults believe it's just being a teenager. However, I am hoping my poem reaches the teens who can relate to this.
