Do The Trees? MAG
There’s too much noise around
The rapid chatter of toothpaste advertisements,
Vocalizing their fine print
The clap as a stack of books sinks heavily to the floor
The biting hiss of the heater starting up for another cold night,
Reluctant
The fatigued creak of my broken lamp, always unable to hold itself up,
Slipping constantly
And righted just to nod again ...
The gray zigzags of a non-transmitting radio station
The sweep of cars jockeying for supremacy
I wonder,
Do the birds
Find the noise disgusting?
And therefore fly
To escape the discomfort into momentary eternity?
Do the beasts that swarm around us,
Find the waves transmitted through their clear medium
Jarring?
And therefore hide
Deep in unexplored caves,
So impenetrable to our interference?
Do they shift restlessly under our continents
And long to surface,
And to break our land?
Do the trees,
Arms stretching of age
Sigh with the wind
And close their ears,
Remembering the young times of peace?
