To A Coach

It’s the voice
The voice that echoes through the walls
Then reverberates back
Loud and clear
Encouraging yet comforting

The voice that motivates
That screams inside my head
The voice tells me to what to dream for

It’s the simple things like,
The smile when I feel like frowning
The high five when I feel like drowning

Repeating himself over and over
But never drawing thin
His boundless knowledge base
That helps me through every race

Spontaneous and amusing
But serious too
With his attitude of a champion
But mindset focused on learning

But sometimes the best laid schemes
Often go awry
And he is unchanged
In the face of disappointment
Where any normal person would admit defeat

His virtue of patience
For I know that I have none
To tell me it’s getting better
For waiting, another week, month, or year

For believing in me
Even when I don’t feel like believing in myself
For helping me along the way
Like a good coach should
