The Rock
You, are the rock by which I’m bound,
The rock that keeps me tethered to the ground.
When I awake and you’re not there,
I’ll suddenly, float in the air.
Defying physics without a care,
For my love is missing,
You are not here.
You have ascended,
Leaving me behind.
On you I was dependent,
And the binds you’ve created,
begin to unwind.
The chains you’ve created, made of steel.
Will disappear, as they are no longer real.
My wings no longer clipped,
In oil, my engine dipped.
My existence on this plane,
Will all be in vain.
The moment you breathe one last time,
Will be the last, breath of mine.
how can a heart exist without blood,
Or crops without a flood.
How can a brain belong without a spine,
Or a star, that’s lost its ability to shine.
When you leave,
Your own rock untethered,
I’ll stand in disbelief.
As the universe stands weathered.
The void you’ve left begins to grow,
As the decrease of rocks begin to flow.
The freedom from this world begins to show,
I wasn’t only bound by you,
with many others in tow.
When I see the impact you’ve left behind,
All the people who you’ve helped design,
I’ll sit idly by,
wishing it was over.
The nectar in which the universe bleeds,
Everyone, will soon feed.
As you are gone,
And we were all in need,
Of you, all along.
Our memories of you begin to fade,
All the fulfilling memories, together we made.
The grass on which you loved to lay,
The lipstick you wore, everyday.
Your dress flowing like the sea,
Calm and collected,
Controlled as can be.
Your dark brown eyes,
As common as they seem.
Sent through my chest butterflies,
Each time they saw the sun beam.
But now you are relieved,
Relieved of everything in this life.
And yet I once believed,
You were selfish as my wife.
I see the freckles on an apple,
And reminisce about yours.
My view on life has been dismantled,
I see you everywhere,
My view now obscured.
I can’t enjoy existence without you,
There’s not a single thing I can do.

Was inspired to write this piece in 8th grade, for a poetry contest at my school. I did some fine tuning since then, and I hope it doesn’t still sound like an 8th grade writing level
