The Resolution
Burning bridges, burning houses
Burning cities, burning towns
Burn the river, burn the wind
Burn the kings, burn their crowns
Let the ashes settle on the banks
Let them wash, let them blow
Let the ruins crumble to the earth
Let them break, let them go

My name is Miles, and I am the most foolish man alive. I call myself a writer and do not write. I try to start good habits that never stick. I pick up books that I will never finish before they need to be returned to the library. I spend too long on my phone every day. I consistently trip over the corners of walls. I am… the most foolish man alive.
In seriousness, I wrote this poem as the first of a series that I wanted to do, to try writing a poem daily. Then, when my mom and I saw that BYU Young Author’s Academy is encouraging people to send things in here, she pushed me to do so for this poem, which she held in high regard.
This poem can mean different things, if you look from different perspectives. To me, it means to leave the things of the past and the things that harry you behind. With all luck, someone else will find purpose of greater significance, here. Good winds ahead.
