I gaze up high at Your Kingdom above,

Desperately clinging to who I once was,

As I fall to the earth like a burning dove.

You said you’d forgive us with all your love

But was that, too, just a lie, my Lord?

I gaze up at Your Kingdom above.

Punished for questioning Your word, or lack thereof;

My wings charred black, encapsulating me

As I fall to the earth like a burning dove.

Thrust out to the depths with an eager shove,

My eyes blaze with contempt as

I gaze up at Your Kingdom above.

I, who my brethren will ne’er again speak of,

Now see them looking down on me

As I fall to the earth like a burning dove.

I flew too high in Your eyes, no longer fitting in Your plan like a glove;

Yet I descend knowing the truth of who and what You are;

I gaze up at Your Kingdom above

As I fall to the earth like a burning dove.

This poem is from the perspective of a fallen Angel, or Lucifer himself, that or it could be alternatively looked at as an Icarus-esque point of view who flew too close to the sun and fell from the grace that someone saw in them.
