Forest of Gold
Those green eyes with flecks of gold.
They strike my beating heart,
Unaware of their Herculean hold.
Pain is inevitable, an oracle foretold.
Yet I couldn't leave the warmth in
Those green eyes with flecks of gold.
A pool of crimson and a touch so cold.
Those glazed eyes stare through me.
Unaware of their Herculean hold.
I beg and wail with tears uncontrolled.
But little by little, the light leaves
Those green eyes with flecks of gold.
Words of love forever left untold.
Hands of regret grip my heart.
Unaware of their Herculean hold.
I dream of a day in a field of marigold.
Where I will at last reunite with
Those green eyes with flecks of gold,
Unaware of their Herculean hold.

I wrote this poem before reading The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. When I came back to it, I realized how fitting it is to that story :)
