War

There are times when men think big, but act strong

Lifting arms, building death by the palm of their hands

Where restless nights are met by strong demands

The reckless pursuit of justice leads men into battle

Their thirst for victory drives them like cattle

But where is the humanity in it?

Sacrifice all for your country and people

And sell yourself to the cause

With the battles raging, will there ever be a pause?

Because when people fight to prove righteousness

They lose their light and enter the darkness

The humans we say we are simply fade…

Into the lie, we all tell ourselves to excuse our mistakes.

So what will we do?

When men choose to die for injustice,

When women cry out in sorrow,

And when children are left without a family?

What will we, the humane people,

What will we do?

The author's comments:

This piece was created as a small assignment my teacher gave me on slam poetry. Once I completed it and shared it with my classmates it ended up being one of the best I've made. It blew me away at first, but as time passed I began to see the potential with it. Which is why I am trying to get it published, so people can feel what I feel when I see the concept of War.
