Forgive, and forget: a fallacy

One will always remember, now I see

You said you’ve forgiven me, for it was “in the past,”

But those pains have memories, that will forever last

I guess I am greedy, for wanting more

Wanting you to say, “I love you,” is what I am waiting for

Hopelessly, and forever in love, it would appear I am

Wondering, if I am still the man

You loved, or the one who hurt you most

Or perhaps, I am just a ghost

Of what could have been,

Had I not ended life before it could begin

A dead man’s grasp, I cannot let go

A dead heart’s wrath, I sadly know

“Forgive and forget,” to love again

You’ve done naught but one, and so it ends

Don’t forget, for you’re all I have

Your love for he, is now a “had”

I know, you no longer care

But I cannot forget, all that we have shared

“What once was, now is not,”

A memory of you, is all I’ve got

I may seem like a lost man, for I am,

But please understand

That I am sorry, even though you’ve forgiven me

I’m sorry I love you, even though we could never be

The author's comments:

A poem about the feelings one has when they hurt someone they love, and that person says that they forgive them, but it doesn't suffice.

Line 18, correction: "Me," instead of "He."
