Children, laughing, don't know their in love.
Layed out on a blanket to count the stars above.
Lemonade sales, to earn a buck or two.
But they were still young enough to be buckaroos.
She wanted him to chase her around.
Play hide and go seek, but never get found.
Wanted that boy to smile her way.
That was back when, they used to play.
But when he asked her will you love me?
She said no, never.
What she meant was forever.

Highschool, try to fit in.
Much more different than being ten.
Two young teens, don't know their in love.
Layed out on a blanket, to count the stars above.
Short lasting jobs, to make it through the Summer.
Still used language like lame and bummer.
She wanted him to ask her to the dance.
To dress up real pretty, but not have a chance.
Wanted that boy to make the first move.
That was back when, the boy had to choose.
But when he asked her will you love me?
She said no, never.
What she meant was forever.

In the middle of college, making ends meet.
Dead tired and exhausted, worn on their feet.
Two young college kids, don't know their in love.
Layed out on a blanket and ignored the stars above.
Worried about fun and concerned about things.
They were still young, but old enough for rings.
She wanted him to ask what she'd been waiting for.
To give her everything, but still ask for more.
That was back when, their life just begun.
But when he asked her will you love me?
She said no, never.
What she meant was..forever.
