Death lingered,

In the Darkness

Awaiting a fatal

mistake

He never sleeps;

I am always awake

Death smiled,

Angered by my

Resurrection

My time has not

Come to an end;

I shall never let go

Vidi morti subriends,

Et subrisi retro

The author's comments:

The Latin title of this poem translates to, "I Looked at Death, and Smiled."

The last stanza, "Vidi morti subriends, et subrisi retro" means: "I saw Death smiling, and I smiled back."

The meaning of this poem is a man who has looked Death in the face, and cheated him.        He watches Death smile at him, and smiles back, knowing that he has won.

It comes from one of my favorite concepts: a mortal-being beating Death at His own game.

@memlol13 I appreciate that. They were my favorite to write, as I feel they sum up the entire poem pretty well.
