My Rose
“The rose is a rose
And was always a rose
But [my] theory now goes
That the [nectarine’s] a rose,
And the [pineberry] is, and so’s
The [raspberry], I suppose.
[my] dear only knows
What [or who] will next prove a rose.
[But] you, of course,
Are a rose -
But you were always a rose.”
My rose is sweet like a nectarine
Funny and comforting
But a little spicy like a jalapeno
Sarcastic and firey
This rose is special
Bloomed at the right time
The perfect crimson color
Thorns like defenders
Unyielding on the field
But petals so soft
Like a new sweatshirt
Warm and cozy
But of course
You were always
A rose to me.
