We are the same, you and I
I walked through town.
People stopped and stared at me.
Mother’s held close to their children.
Children simply gasped.
I boarded a bus full of people.
I went all the way to the back.
There sat a man.
He said,” You don’t belong here.”
At first, I was confused.
Then I began to realize what he meant.
I picked up his arm and shoved it in his face.
“You don’t either, brother.”.
He didn’t blink, flinch, nothing.
“I’m white you’re black. You don’t belong here.” He repeated.
I pulled out a tan marker and drew on his arm
“ This marker matches your skin, and tan is a color.
We are the same, you and I.”
