Stage Life
Expression is the thing that moves my life,
The sun in my sky,
The water in my rain.
Up on that stage is where I belong.
It’s where I thrive to be,
And don’t you dare try to take me from the thing that makes me happy.
You can like me,
You can hate me,
I really don’t care at all.
But don’t get in my way of being on the stage,
I’m in it for the long haul.
When I’m up on that stage,
No one else exists,
Nothing else matters.
Just me, and that spotlight,
Those hot stage lights,
Makeup so thick you’re face turns orange.
Costumes that are ugly, and heavy.
Itchy cloth, raised stress level.
Running back and forth back stage,
Looking for your next prop,
Running through crowds of crew members to make it onstage for your cue,
The back stage drama,
Props not in the correct place.
Someone forgetting a line,
Having to fake an entire scene because someone forgot a line,
All of the stress,
And the running,
And the worrying.
It’s all worth it.
Everything that you went through to get onto that stage,
Is worth it when you hear the thunder of applause when the curtain closes.
Nothing can explain how it feels the second you walk onto that stage,
Nothing can explain the excitement of waiting back stage for the show to start.
Nothing can explain the rush of completing a scene perfectly.
The stage is my life,
It’s where I live, where I breathe.
It’s where I want to be.
It’s the thing in this world that makes me truly happy.
If I’m ever upset, or feel like my soul is in a cage.
I put it all out, on the floor.
I put everything I have into my acting,
And I leave it on the stage
