In Every Way
In every way, you loved
The gentle brush of your hand
 Your poorly hidden smile
The warm biscuits and homemade jam

 You loved fully, completely
Embracing the distance that defined us
And scaling the walls that both time and age
 Had their hand in making.

 You loved selflessly
 Asking only for mirth
 And celebration.
 Forbidding grief.

 And I loved you
In every way, fully, completely, selflessly.
But I cannot honor your final request
Because grief is the strongest form of love.
