So Winter began,
As she polished her gun
And smiled
A wicked smile
In the direction of their hearts.

The coldness crawled onto her hands
And the nails grew
Long
And sharp;

And her hair grew
Long
And white;

Long and white they grew.

Her eyes were ice
And ice her heart
And mind
And soul
Within
Her chest
And ice-cold skin;

Winter fell upon her back
And laughed
An icy laugh
That echoed in their ears.

Her flesh like marble;
Cold and dead
And nothing there
Inside her lungs:
She breathes out snow
And frozen songs
Her gaze December’s wind.

So Winter began
With a broken heart
And a broken mind
And perception.

And the cold inside
Grew colder yet
When her voice became a whisper.
