Tunnel Rat
There was a door
 In the jungle floor

Danny came up from the back
 Taking off his radio pack

 Dropping into the hole
 His eyes burned like coals

 Sarge handed Danny a pistol
And I prayed for his soul

 Crawling through the earthen veins
 Underneath the typhoon rain

 Danny shot at sounds
 And traveled further underground

 He searched for trip wire
 In the muddy dirt mire

 Sometimes swimming underwater
Gone away to fight for the father

 I never saw Danny again
 It’s a story I do not tell,
 My grandchildren
