The Old Man by the Cafe
Late in the night
 Down by the town bar
 An old man drinks brandy
 And watches the cars

Sitting outside at an iron table
Under shadow set by electric light
His mind drifts down rivers of liquor
Into the days of youth he might

 He tried to hang himself
 One day at home
 His niece cut him down
And hid the rope on a shelf

 The old man is rich
 Some people will tell you
 But it doesn’t matter
 His mind don’t run true
