A sea of brilliant dresses and tuxedos fills the room;
These bodies are promiscuous; it’s easy to assume
That morals here are useless and are strangely compromised,
The innocence they once retained is gone, unrecognized.

Amongst a crowd that radiates a mood of dirt-stained lives,
The girl who glows with purity and virtue soon arrives.
She’s with her date, a handsome boy; their movements smooth and slow,
They greet their friends with waves and smiles, and off to dance they go.

The two stand out like jewels as they twirl and jump and glide;
With every beat and every step, their movements coincide,
Yet the only place they touch is arm to arm or hand to hand!
Unlike the other couples, they already understand…

That though their chasteness may at first depict embarrassment,
When a closer look is taken, they are actually content.
The beauty of this duo is not surpassed at all
By the other bodies dancing here within this building’s walls.

They are pleasing to the eyes, this young woman and this man,
Who dance with tact, with grace, with poise; and all the while, their plan
Was not to entertain the crowd, but simply to take in
The company of one another, their loveliness within.

For even though good looks will get a person far today,
The people who rely on them will quickly go astray.
Splendor doesn’t have to be about a gorgeous face…
True beauty, like this girl and boy, means modesty and grace.

This sprang from my high school Homecoming Dance. To those who showed true beauty, thank you so much.
