Shadowed Eyes
Sometimes I wonder
at the pain in your eyes.
It swallows me
blackens my heart
and erases memories.
Your misery is not my doing.
But I'm sorry
God, how I'm sorry.
Sometimes I wonder
at the black in their eyes.
And think
no, not me.
I hate it, I hate it
yet I'm helpless
hopeless
and needing you.
But the pain in your eyes.
Sometimes I wonder
at the hurt in my eyes.
I gaze in the mirror
and you look back at me.
And I realize
you are me.
