a fear of being restrained
of being tied down
with 1000-pound chains
limits my freedom
my choices
and eliminates my kingdom
diminishes my voice
controls my everything
my everyone
and leaves a sting
makes me want to run
farther than I do now
halfway across the world
but I don't see how
because it'll keep me curled
into a tight ball
that I won't come out of until it's safe
when I know I won't fall
and I don't have a set fate
with this fear hanging there
suffocating me with its hindrance
I know I can't bear
this life without independence
it's unclear where I'll go
who I'll be
but I know that I'll know
that I know I'm free

It's interesting sometimes how fear of something can be more restraining than the thing itself.
