Pride
This young man you deem with excessive pride
--Stands as a statue in your dark distasteful hall
Therefore, why curse him and why should he hide
--This expanding gift conceived from chosen call
Telling him “be the very best you can be
--And reveal unto the world naught of shame”
But shall this be what you cannot bear to see
--Or perhaps belittle his hard-worked fame
I once knew a man whom alone bravely fought
--For these skills upon him deservingly bestowed
These soldiers’s blood with knowledge he sought
--Within the pumping veins of his mind now flowed
So now you lay him within the pages of your story
---That solemnly tells of this man with excessive pride
Whom you contended to take away all self-made glory
---For your conformist rules never did he abide
