If Only For a Moment
I want to touch a cloud,
as a mountain caresses a sunset,
if only for a moment.
Feel the warmth of the sun,
carefree from all cancerous rays,
if only for a moment.
Touch an eagle's feather,
to know the feeling of nobility, grace, and patriotism,
if only for a moment.
Close my eyes to re-embrace my memories,
before they fade into the sands of time.
if only for a moment.
Pause, on the peak of a leap off a swing,
taking in what it feels like to almost fly,
if only for a moment.
Walk across glassy water,
before splashing into the ever flowing molecules,
if only for a moment.
Hold my breath as long as I can,
so maybe those things I left behind can catch back up,
if only for a moment.
Laugh until I cry,
because I wouldn't want to cry any other way,
if only for a moment.
Send a letter in a bottle,
because the message is best not left inside you,
if only for a moment.
Smile for a camera,
only because you want the world to see you smiling inside,
if only for a moment.
Write a piece of poetry,
good enough to inspire a nation so diverse in interests,
if only for a moment.
