the waves rush to the shore
with a roar
and when the seagulls fly overhead
my eyelids feel like lead
the sand was coarse
and of course
I fall asleep
to wake with a solid sheet
just outside my window
my breath freezes
and I wish to go back
to that summer day
to be in the sun all day
on that beach in the bay
