Midnight
I let the summer's dampness seep into my blouse
as I lay on the romantic hill
and a smooth wool blanket.
The unyielding night sky
flickers and winks
at my stretched body,
so bluntly accessorizing
the grassy space.
The vastness
of that torrid, upward sea
nearly suffocates an earthly admirer.
I feel the pressure of the madly
churning, yearning nightly heaven
imprinting my cheeks
with hollow comets and
feathered silence.
I whisper,
"I am significant,"
and the sound is swallowed
into the abyss.
