Hand-Me-Down Dreams
These hand-me-down dreams
Two sizes too big
And yellowed with age
Drag across my floor
Sweeping the dust aside.
They were given to me
With words of how I’d grow
And how they’d fit
In time.
But these dreams
Were never mine
Not really
Just lends from you
From everyone
Of what they wanted
To see.
And now
Now I don’t know what
Dreams are mine
Or what dreams I borrowed.
And when I look in the mirror
I’m a million fragments of
Rented dreams
For lease tags
Across each peace
Maybe someday
I’ll have dreams of my own
But right now
Right now
I just have pathetic dreams
On loan.
