Nineteen Years
Nineteen years… my friend
Nineteen years to the very end
We’ve laughed, we’ve played
We’ve grieved, we’ve prayed.
And now here I stand…
With a trembling hand
And I see you here-
What a mere
Nineteen years can do to you!
You change; you grow, to a being anew.
And so, you see,
With the world I must agree
That you have changed, and so have I
But alas your change has gone awry-
Don’t you remember?
That brilliant ember,
A flame of potential
A youth that was the quintessential
Body of a man worth a reckon?
I beckon you, I beckon!
Shut your eyes and recall
The man they knew could never fall.
But he fell, oh he fell!
And now his fate resides in Hell
A gleaming path that’s crumbled now…
How, I ask you, how?
I have a duty, you see.
And here we stand- you and me.
What a genuine friend,
If it were up to me I’d like to spend
The rest of my time
Beside you with sublime
Brotherhood, as none have seen before.
But now, only you I abhor.
Like a worm
I’d like to see you squirm, to squirm!
But my duty not done,
Why, why have I not begun?
No, my friend, no matter the deed,
How I tend to mislead
You to think that I,
A man of my trade does not cry.
Nineteen years… my friend
Nineteen years to the very end.
Nineteen years to now.
But I cannot allow-
Tell me about the other side,
But you shan’t, once you’ve died.
Oh, Nineteen years… my friend
Nineteen years to the very end.
