Her silky voice can barely escape
Through the noise of harried grinding,
Through the sound of boiling water,
Of churning oceans, whining beasts.
Though she pleads with all her might,
To hear a single, solid answer,
She hears nothing, not a word,
To save her from this devastation.
They crack her digits clean in two,
Break slender fingers reaching upwards
In silent praising of the heavens.
They rip fine hair from bleeding scalp,
Mangled screaming barely heard
Over the furor of the saws.
They drain her clear, piercing blue eyes,
Of depth and beauty unwritten,
And she’s blinded as she falls.
And here we are, lost in a dream,
As we march on dully, bleakly,
And she mourns what she once had,
Her wails unheeded as we stride.
We climb right up the topmost towers,
And we crowd the crumbling citadels,
Of that hunger that we call progress,
And that thirst of the alias evolution.
And yet though we mount the steps,
As we scramble to reach this glory,
At some point the bastions cave in
And we sink to horrors unknown.
As the Earth, she sheds her virus,
And clings to the life she has left,
No excuses, no reasons, no begging,
Shall deny us the future we’ve wrought.
For so long have our ears ignored her,
For so long we’ve refused every call,
That so used is our Earth to not hearing,
That she’s deaf, and hears naught, as we fall.
