Best Friend
What is a best friend?
Seems like everybody has one
But when it comes to the end
How would you define ‘em?
Someone you defend
And always have there backs
And you don’t have to pretend
You can be yourself, relax
All your time you wanna spend
Just be with them forever
A helping hand you’ll always lend
Throughout each life endeavor
Love and care they always extend
Through actions, big or small
Your personality they comprehend
Share your secrets, share them all
They’ll surely always send
A smile upon your face
And your friendship they contend
By they’re warm embrace
I remember 2nd grade
I swore that’d be the end
I’ve kept my rule for a decade
Of no more naming a best friend
Now I have close friends
One of them is a best
Who that is, it kindda depends
But all in all you’d say I’m blessed
I have friends that I don’t see much
But they’re always close connected
Throughout the years we grow and such
And our friendship can be neglected
But when we talk and discuss
There’s always the sense I know her
She’s knows me and that is a plus
All my secrets I can show her
I have friends that go in waves
When we hangout, catch up’s a blast
It doesn’t matter how many days
Throughout the time, our friendship lasts
We stay up late, eat lots of food
Talking about what’s on our minds
Normally we are in the mood
To discuss about our boy finds
I have my girls I tell stories to
Texting, running, giggling or notes
There’s nothing boring about what we do
And oh so funny is all our quotes
They help me scheme and decide
And we plan out our secret missions
Always I can come and confide
No matter what’s the current conditions
There’s family who is always friends
They are my blood or married to it
It’s not always easy to make amends
But family is there to get you through it
Growing up and sharing lives
Comes with a certain pact
Memories in my mind thrive
And family’s a blood contract
I have this boy I met freshman year
In math, I said “hey, sit by me!”
At first he bugged me, but it came clear
He was my favorite person to see
It was not my plan to fall for him
My original goal was make him smile
We talked so much I came to adore him
And our friendship has become worthwhile
So who is mine, who do I choose?
Everybody has one friend, their best
What make some fall short or lose?
What makes others win the contest?
My girls have each other and that’s alright
We’ll be close as we grow up together
I’m sure we will always stay close and tight
They’ll be there as I go through the weather
My boyfriend didn’t start out my boyfriend
He became close when I had no one
Many nights texting him I would spend
Texting about everything is how it begun
One night he asked who my BFF was
And I told him no one, not since 2nd grade
He told me “Hey, I’ll be your best friend”
And I don’t think he realized how heavy that weighed
When people asked me if I liked this guy
My answer was yes, but first as a friend
Though, had he asked me, I would’ve lied
‘Cause I thought our friendship might end
Now we are closer than ever in past
Hanging out, talking, texting, and more
He’s taken a place in my heart so vast
And my life isn’t missing a best friend anymore
