"Friendship" Bracelet
I made you a friendship bracelet,
a kind of going away present.
But you left too soon,
and the bracelet sat on my dresser,
reminding me that you had gone.
I contemplated wearing it,
Wondering if I would ever get it to you.
One day I put it on.
Every time I looked at it, I was reminded of you.
The bracelet wore down eventually,
We hadn’t talked in a while.
The bracelet I made for you lives on my ankle, but for how long?
It has torn.
Each day it gets weaker and weaker,
I am reminded of you and how we have grown apart.
Our relationship has weakened, just like your bracelet.
Was it even a relationship to begin with?
