Is this Right?
A little girl shrieks in terror.
A hundred eyes light up in horror.
Janjaweed.
Ak-47s in hand.
Emotionless faces slaughter African civilians
Entire villages burnt.
Refugees with nowhere to turn.
Hidden in day.
Fleeing at night.
Miles to travel in the dark.
No right to breathe.
No right to speak.
Those lucky to flee
The government sponsored massacre
Live with hearts that bleed.
No right to peace.
No right to security.
Unsanitary camps.
Broken limbs and displaced faces.
The frightened young
The wary old
Shake their heads in disapproval
Of the sinful nature of humanity.
Their reality.
No right to believe.
No right to live free.
Darfur.
Over 450,000 dead from violence and disease.
A mass graveyard.
No air to breathe.
No words to speak.
Is this right?
