The Wishing Well

The Wishing Well
I reach into my pocket
coming up with a a shiny copper penny.
I look down in the wishing well,
and see my wavering reflection.
I throw the penny into the water
little waves rippling to the edge
down to the depths that penny floats
until it hits the bottom.
This is where my penny lies
holding my one true wish
for years and years I keep coming back
just seeing if its still there.
Now I am a little bit older
and my friends don't believe in wishing wells
but I still hold onto that wish
hoping that it will come true.
