The Changes in the Rain

rain
splashing, pouring
washing away my secrets
trickling over memories
lost, fading
forgotten
drenching Christmases passed
of happiness
immaturity
blissful ignorance
gone
soaking summers
of hopeless abandon
washing clear all pretenses
all facades
for a moment
revealing weaknesses
and truths unwanted
beating on rooftops
muffling the sounds of arguing
causing a sense of specious sanctity
plunging a family
into the oblivion
of things they can’t control
it is a blindness and a clarity
the changes in the rain
