Where I’m From
I’m from snowmen and sledding in winter.
I’m from jumping in leaves in the fall.
I’m from Easter egg hunts in the springtime,
And from summer league softball.
I’m from the garden at Grandpa Michael’s,
Picking berries and flowers and vegetables,
I’m from crazy rummy (we played with real money!)
And from dress up with hats, scarves, and high heels.
I’m from bike rides to the pond
(we fed bread to the geese)
And adventures at the park
(we played make-believe)
I’m from camping trips, cicadas buzzing,
Singing karaoke to “Summer Lovin’.”
I’m from those black and white keys
And the violin strings,
And right before bedtime, down on my knees.
I’m from my lifelong friend Lauren,
And my yearlong friend Erin.
I’m from those who love me,
And who also love Him.
I’m from tapes, CDs, and mp3s,
TVs, and always saying please.
I’m from shish kabobs and stuff on sticks,
(But now, dinner with five is certainly missed.)
I’m from the wishes I made that never came true,
And the time I stayed up late to learn tying my shoe.
I’m from my dreams for the future,
Recollections of the past,
I’m from my life in the present,
And from smiling, looking back.
