This can’t wait
It’s not like I want to;
It’s not like I try;
It’s not my intention;
It just happens sometimes.
I try to be helpful,
I try to be kind,
But sometimes those manners
Can just slip my mind.
Sometimes I don’t notice
Who’s outside my world.
I’ve got my own posse,
My own group of girls.
And every so often,
I’ll see someone new,
But it’s hard just to talk
When I don’t have a clue
What they like, what they hate,
What they just tolerate,
And the unsures remain.
I’m too late.
Talk can wait.
And I don’t realize that a smile’s the cure;
My mind is too busy with all that’s for sure,
So I chat with the friends
That I’ve had for some years,
And I tend to forget
I could stop someone’s tears.
