Birch
Birch,
Your bark once white
is now black
from all the things we can't take back.
You've shivered in the wind
but now you burn because we've sinned.
Your shade may be no longer,
still your soul is stronger.
Birch,
Your roots are smart.
Fall comes and your singed skin falls apart.
Birch,
Your heart is big.
Spring comes with a new sprout and sprig.
Still, your scars will come out and face the sun
As a reminder of all that we have done.
