The Pakistan floods have killed so many
There are homeless people without even a penny
Children are dying from lack of care
Mosquitoes are swarming their bodies and hair
They are desperate and need help, can’t we spare any?

Villages are swallowed by full swollen rivers
The state of this country just gives me the shivers
Schools have been damaged to such an extent
that children can’t even be close to content
If this goes on, people will just be left to wither

These affected people have no other choice
Than to hope and pray that someday they’ll rejoice
I know for a fact that none of us can feel
As desperate as these victims- without having a proper meal

Do you see all the tears and the fear in their eyes?
So let’s come together, and help them rise!

The author's comments:
This poem is about the floods that hit so many areas of Pakistan, and how it snatched so many lives away. I was trying to make the reader sympathize with these poor victims, and understand what a horrible state Pakistan is in. I actually saw a picture on the Internet of small babies lying on cement with mosquitoes crawling over their helpless bodies. One of the babies was sucking on an empty bottle. I think that this empty bottle symbolizes just how helpless and desperate the people are. A lot more attention is being given to the earthquake in Haiti and other disasters rather than the Pakistan floods. I don't understand how this makes sense since so many more people died from the floods than most anything else. I felt so heartbroken and angry after reading about all these things and seeing that picture, so I decided to vent my feelings out in a poem because I really love poetry.
