"Thank God men cannot fly, and lay waste to the sky as well as the Earth"-Henry David Thoreau

The man next door finally confessed
As he told us of the creature he now possessed
And how proud he was of that shaggy-eared beast
That would sit, and lie down, and grovel at his feet
I listened as the man said at night he was woken
Because, he proudly announced, the beast was housebroken
The man beamed with pride as he told the beast to stay
And then turned and swiftly walked away
You see, the man grinned, I’m so fortunate to be
The master that tamed this shaggy-eared beast
And I shook my head for I knew it was naught
The beast that was the one being taught
The man was so proud, he bragged about the beast to his name
And I smiled for I knew the beast was not the one that was tamed
For once the creature wanted to go out, he woke the man up at night
And the man was trained to get up, and let the beast go where he liked
The man bragged where the beast’s loyalties lay
But if a squirrel crossed the yard, I doubted the dog would sit and stay
The man raved how the dog never begged, or taunted
Because I knew the dog knew the man fed him all he wanted
And I felt it cruel that the man was too blind to see
How beast tamed the master, and the master became the beast

Just some comical irony that popped into my head. I've been wanting a dog for forever, and I still do.
