Timing
I extend my hand,
Bowing.
I am ready to step
Politely and precisely
In a romantic ballroom dance.
She grabs my hand and twirls me,
My shirt tails fanning out behind me
As she forces me into a Tango.
My timing is off.
I start to get into the groove
And she changes again.
Now we are in a line,
Fiddles urging us
To step sideways and clap.
I attempt to adjust to meet her needs,
When she grabs me again,
Holding me close
Her hand on my shoulder
Her cheek pressed to mine.
I take a step back,
Bow and kiss her hand.
I am not in the mood
To ballroom dance anymore.
My timing is off.
