Old Pride
No matter the weather,
No matter the cold,
He works through the dullness,
No matter how old.
He watches the kids,
Makes sure they can cross,
He wields the power to stop,
For he is the boss.
And one might ask,
Why does he still work?
Shouldn’t he give up?
End this tiresome lurk?
But an old man’s pride
Is a delicate thing.
Tough and resilient
Through life’s bite and sting.
An Old Crossing Guard’s pride
Is as deep as the ocean,
As strong as the tide.
