Hands and Lips
Hands cover ears,
blocking out the banshee screams,
the screams of silence.
Hands cover the mouth,
and the teeth nip at the skin,
making it feel real.
Hands scratch and scratch,
until the red release appears.
Hands clasp to keep still,
to keep from reaching.
Lips set in a thin line,
to keep the stem of words from flowing.
Lips turned down slightly,
a thin mask of happiness covers the pain.
Lips bitten and scabbed,
the red release has appeared.
Lips open in a silent 'O',
waiting for the sounds that never come.
