You scream all your secrets
To tenebrous skies
Fleeing through cornfields
Evading headlights
You hide among daisies
And patches of dirt
Blood marks your brow
Sweat stains your shirt
“I’d rather be sore
Calloused and bruised
I’d rather be solid
Mind and heart fused
‘Cause bruises and gashes
Don’t really hurt
When I see flowers grow
From the tear-dampened dirt.”
With the ghost of a smirk
And the strike of a match
You tore out of sight
And let the flames catch
