Eternal Rose

If love’s eternal bounty must flourish and pose,
Then long last the reign of the eternal rose.
Its petals long hath given us light,
Its buds everlasting and withstanding all might.
Through love’s scorn and flames it hath survived,
Dappled with courage, its faith feigned and contrived.
‘Til long last the glass hath shattered full,
The vase encasing the flower more fragile than skull;
Yet the rose lived long past its mortal frame:
Now and forever forward, love shouts its resonant name.
