Do You Believe In Second Chances?

remember when
we were younger and
invincible and
optimistic
to a fault?
you loved without
hesitation
and i tried without
limitations
and we didn't worry
because we'd never
experienced
the fall.
now we're older and
more jaded and
wiser,
perhaps.
there's a part of me
that can't stand
to stay away-
back to where we started
but different
in a million ways.
this time i'm
scared
and you're more
cautious
and i don't know
which way
i'd rather have it-
an expanse of perfect
promises
bound to be broken
or a chance at
rebuilding
on shattered foundations.
