Night
For Elie Weisel who suffered so much
At night all is lost
Hope barely lingers in the air
It stands on their fingertips
Waiting to take the dive
No longer sticking,
Slipping,
Falling
During the night
Concern for their families
Sketches the faces
Of many men
Death is on their doorstep
Waiting to greet them
As many are lost
Into the night
The survivors are grateful
But at what cost?
For much has been lost
And more is to come
When they realize
Loved ones have perished
Never to return
As many are lost
Into the night.
