Walking in the Past
“An old trumpet collects dust,
It used to be held upright with supreme pride and lust.
Next to it is an antique frame,
With a bride and groom on their special day.
They all hold memories from the past,
Some will stay and some will pass.
Old music pages scatter the floor,
Behind the piano that will be played no more.
A door can be found in the floorboards of the kitchen,
Leading to a fort made be a boy of great ambition.
They all hold memories from the past,
Some will stay and some will pass.
On your way up the stairs you will see a hole in the wall,
From a boy with a temper and a solid fist.
In the closet you see clothes that will never again be worn,
And may just as well not even exist.
They all hold memories from the past,
Some will stay and some will pass.
In the basement you’ll see a rock couch,
And will notice the floor is merely dirt.
A washer and dryer line the wall,
Next to an old telephone that has done its last call.
They all hold memories from the past,
Some will stay and some will pass.
But others will forever last.
A girl can for found of age fifteen,
Staring at the front door screen.
I’ve walked this house a thousand times,
But this shall be my last.
For a tragedy has made him pass away,
But in my heart he’ll always stay.”
