A Love Bouquet
a love bouquet,
stored out of sight and away.
left in a forgotten corner,
a gift from a former
love. she long rejected the wedding band.
and he doesn't understand
why she left him lonely.
he whispers into the bitter black night "if only"
one of his many displays of affection,
she sees his attention as a foul infection.
a willful woman full of pride,
too blind to true love to be an honest man's bride.
these carnations and these roses grew
in the garden where the love-struck nightingale flew,
in the garden where he met his darling under a tree
and from that moment on she was all he could see
in his future. he lives his saddened life,
unrequited love his only companion amidst this strife
and looks to the sorrowful moon above
and prays one day she'll remember his love.
