I Used to Have a Sacred Place...
I used to have a sacred
place, a place
where I used to go, where only I went,
where I could see the surroundings.
I’d climb it all the way
to the top, up the base, up the branches
where no one could see me, where I was free
to do what I pleased
without anyone
to interrupt me,
listening to music,
invisible
like the roots
though you know
they are there,
the foundation –
without them
I wouldn’t have
my sacred place
where everything
in the world
disappeared
for a while,
and I could be
myself
without any worries,
but that tree is no longer t h e r e.
