The Camel
Camel, camel, sturdy as a block,
Thou could walk and walk and walk,
Made not for fragrance but instead,
Created, thou were, to tread and tread?
In what the land, what the place,
Was fashioned thy droll looking face,
And what the smile what the brow,
Shaped this contorted cow?
What the mold what the clay,
That formed thou in this strange new way?
And when thou found thou had a hump,
What the furnace, what the pump?
What the mind what the nails,
Created thee to stomp down desert trails,
What the kind, what the sort,
Designed thee to brae and neigh and snort?
And when the stars suppressed a laugh,
Did you envy the giraffe,
Who seems tall and proud?
Did he who made the giraffe make thou?
Camel, camel, sturdy as a block,
Thou could walk and walk and walk,
Made not for fragrance, but instead,
Created, thou were, to tread and tread?
